AFS130: Celebrating our 2012 Champion

Storytelling is a rich part of every family’s legacy. Each member has a role in weaving the fabric of family dynamics and shaping the future.

Through his work with Aurora Family Service (AFS), our resident social media expert Michail Takach works tirelessly to promote storytelling that renders the purpose, mission and values of our organization.

In recognition for his communication expertise and sharing the stories of hope that emerge daily at Aurora Family Service, Michail will receive the Aurora Health Care Champion Award at the 130th annual meeting of Aurora Family Service.

Most often working behind the camera lens or updating the world using his smartphone, Michail manages multiple platforms to ensure delivery of frequent and consistent messaging to audiences of Aurora’s many websites, as well as Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Pinterest, Google+ and other social media sites. He also shares his expertise as a volunteer for several organizations, including Historic Milwaukee Inc., FUEL Milwaukee, UPAF Next Generation, the Walker’s Point Neighborhood Association and YMCA of Greater Milwaukee.

Joining Aurora Health Care in 2008, Michail first became involved with Aurora Family Service to provide social media support for Family to Family Thanksgiving. Each year, this program provides 3,000 local families with a complete set of groceries so family members can work together to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal. This year, Michail is supporting a new fundraising partnership with the Pabst Mansion to extend Family to Family’s reach even further.

“Each year, we’ve been able to reach and influence more sponsors, donors and volunteers with social media. Before our storytelling went social, we didn’t have a fast, easy or cost-effective way for Aurora Family Service to share their everyday impact,” he said. “Now, we have every opportunity in the world to raise awareness and support without increasing cost.”

This year, Michail developed a new communication strategy for Aurora Family Service that involves caregivers weekly blogging from the front lines of family care;  monthly website articles demonstrating program impacts; continuous promotion of year-round agency events; and a daily presence on the agency’s own dedicated Facebook page.  All of these tactics are building stronger connections between AFS, Aurora Health Care, the Aurora Health Care Foundation and our community.

“Through social media, Michail has helped us extend the reach of our most critical programs,” said Jane Pirsig, AFS executive director. “We are better connected, both to the families we serve and to our shared vision.”

“Without the wealth of my own family memories and cultural traditions, I don’t know who I’d be today,” Michail said. “By dedicating themselves to providing every child with the same privilege of a family heritage, regardless of their circumstances or challenges, Aurora Family Service has inspired my commitment to their mission, vision and values.”

Congratulations to Michail Takach for supporting our purpose to help families live well in our community.
